Preschool, Pre k and Pre-Dance Combo Classes include Tap, Ballet and Tumbling. It is a fun class designed to introduce dance and movement while developing large and small motor skills important to the growth and development of all young children. Fun, expressive music is used. Self confidence and self expression are emphasized.
Tiny Tot Classes are designed for creative movement, small and large motor skill development with music and rhythmic pattern focus. Lots of fun for our little shining stars!
Ballet is the fundamental discipline of all dance styles and forms. Ballet is a classical dance form imparting grace and precision, and employing formalized steps and gestures set in in- tricate, flowing patterns to create expression through movement. Ballet is the “ABC’s” and extremely important to all dance forms.
Finds the balance between ballet and jazz. It blends several different jazz and modern styles, incorporating movement of the entire body while placing a strong emphasis on tech- nique. Ballet and jazz are strongly recommended in conjunction with with this style of dance for a better understanding of the movement.
Tap dance emphasizes musicality, syncopation and rhythm required for dance. It is fun and expressive dance movement that helps enhance dancers ability to keep time and develops self expression through movement.
Jazz is a fun dance style that relies heavily on originality and improvisation. Jazz Classes mix different styles into their classroom work, incorporating their own expression. Jazz dancing often uses bold, dramatic body movements, including body isolations and contrac- tions. The Jazz Style is often what you would see on “So You Think You Can Dance” and other popular dance shows and Broadway stages.
Hip Hop refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. It includes a wide range of styles primarily breaking, locking, and popping. It’s a high energy class that involves a great cardio workout and keeps kids healthy.
Turns, Leaps and Jumps Class is designed to build strength and flexibility with turns/ pirouettes, big jumps and leaps required for all dance styles. Dance combo’s are taught to infuse these skills. A favorite class enjoyed by all!
Acrobatics combines agility, strength, flexibility, balance, speed and conditioning. Our pro- gressive program emphasizes injury prevention while stressing tumbling techniques.
Musical Theater Dance designed to enhance dance skills required for Show Choir/Dance Teams as well to give the student a boost in their skill set. Injury prevention is taught along with proper technique.
Pre-Professional Classes are designed for the more serious dancer. Technique is devel- oped at a quicker pace due to the time commitment per week. Dancers are blended with Company members. Classes in the Pre-Pro division require the following prerequisite:
* Minimum of 2 Pre-Pro Ballet Classes per week
Pre-Pro Pointe must have a strong ballet base, must be in 2 Pre-Pro Ballet Classes per week and must have JCD staff approval along with a doctor’s note clearing the dancer for the physical strength required on the foot and ankle.
Pre-Pro Modern is an interpretive form of dance that allows the dancer to find their true creativity. Helping the students understand the correct alignment and making the move- ment look natural and become imbedded in the muscle memory.
